Summer Vacation Ideas

While many people focus on gambling when they think of Nevada, there is actually quite a bit more to do here, especially during the summer months. Gambling is a big part of their state tourism trade, but there are plenty of activities that the whole family can enjoy in this beautiful and scenic location.

Golf is a major sport in this area of Nevada and you’ll find numerous courses, both in Reno and Carson City, to test your skills. The courses here are truly unique thanks to the varied terrain and climate. While it can get hot during the summer months, the lack of humidity makes it much easier to enjoy outside sports.

Biking and Hiking

Beyond the glitz of the casinos is some incredible country that is best discovered on foot or from a bike. There are some amazing wilderness areas in this region as well as national parks that open up a whole new world to the entire family. The bike trails and hiking trails are very well maintained and you can enjoy a day outing or plan an entire trip around either sport.

Fishing and Boating

When you’re this close to Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River, you can guarantee that the fishing is going to be excellent. Some of the world’s best fishing can be done in either of these locations and the water is second to none. Numerous resorts throughout the area offer special fishing and boating packages to help you get away from it all and peacefully drift through your vacation. Thanks to the boat rental facilities, you don’t even have to worry about dragging a boat with you.

If you want a little more excitement out on the water, there are plenty of watersports that are incredibly popular in this area. The region is home to many areas of rapids and you’ll be able to enjoy a thrilling afternoon as you test your skills out on the water. Most rivers offer guide services that will take you out for a safe but exciting trip on the rapids. Make sure you bring your camera, you won’t want to forget anything.

Throughout the summer months, the area is host to numerous festivals and special events. Reno’s film festival is quite popular, as is the annual rodeo. We highly recommend taking the time to visit a Reno airshow and you can usually find one scheduled at least once a month. The conditions in this area are perfect for flying and you’ll get a great view of some of the world’s most talented pilots and the coolest planes.
