Bethel, Maine is commonly associated with winter fun, but there are numerous activities for the whole family all season long. Due to its temperate climate, summertime is a great time to visit this mountain community and there are many things to see and do while you’re here.

Fishing

Fishing is an incredibly popular sport in Maine and Bethel is no exception. There are numerous lakes, ponds, and rivers here that are just waiting to test your skills. Whether you strike out on your own or visit a resort, you’ll have numerous opportunities to go after the big one while you’re here.

ATV

This is an area that should be enjoyed up close, and ATV tours offer one of the best ways to see why Bethel is so popular. These guided tours take you through the mountains and woodland areas, offering breathtaking views and nature at its finest.

Hunting

This is the perfect area for hunters who enjoy birding. There are thousands of species of birds that pass through this area and many call it home over the summer and fall months. Check ahead to see what is in season before you arrive and make sure you have the appropriate licenses before you get started.

Biking

If ATV’s aren’t your thing but you still want to experience the beauty of Mother Nature, we highly recommend a biking tour of the region. You’ll want to bring a helmet but Bethel offers some incredible trails that offer vistas that are positively incomparable. There are also numerous bike rental shops so you won’t have to worry about dragging your own bike along for the trip.

Boating

Boating, canoeing, and kayaking are incredibly popular and there is no better way to experience the rivers of the great Northeast. Drift along peacefully as you enjoy the climate or take a special guided tour that will take you along some of the more offbeat paths where you can experience true beauty.

Golfing

There are numerous championship style golf courses located around Bethel and if you enjoy golf you should play at least one before you leave. If you have never golfed Maine before, this region offers some of the best play you’ll find anywhere.

Horseback Riding

It may not be the old west, but you’ll still find plenty of trails and outfitters that offer guided horseback tours through the mountains and surrounding areas. They say you see things differently from the back of a horse and in Bethel, this is particularly true.

Whitewater Rafting

If you’re looking for a little excitement, there is no better activity than whitewater rafting. Some of the best water in the country can be found in Bethel and you’ll be in for the ride of your life. There are numerous outfitters that offer guided whitewater tours and we highly recommend going at least once.

Hiking

There is no better way to spend an afternoon in Bethel than by hiking up a mountain path and enjoying the peace and tranquility you’ll find there. The Appalachian Trail runs nearby the town with 267 miles of the trail running through the state. It's an amazing hike, but you must plan in advance for this type of hiking.
