Greater New Haven

The Greater New Haven may be small, but it’s a gem of an area. You may have actually heard of the famous university in the area—a little place known as Yale University. The Yale University campus is a draw all in itself.

Things to Do

The Yale Center for British Art is a combination of a cultural center and research institution. It is home to the largest collection of British art that you can find outside of the Mother Country. Artists represented in the museum include Thomas Gainsborough, George Stubbs and Joshua Reynolds. The museum is open to the public, and it is near the many wonderful shops and restaurants for which New Haven is known. Another Yale museum is the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History. This one is fun and exciting for the whole family, offering sites such as primate skeletons, Egyptian mummies and dinosaur fossils. Touch real specimens for real animals, and watch as caterpillars munch on their favorite foods.

If you want to tour the city, but not tear up the feet, take a Segway tour of Guilford and the Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison. Cruise along to different locations as your guide points out landmarks and monuments. After the tour, have a glass of wine at either the Gouveia or Chamard Vineyards in Wallingford and Clinton respectively. Or, head to the Clinton Crossing Premium Outlets in Clinton for some retail therapy after the stresses of the day.
