Big Bear Lake

The Big Bear Solar Observatory is located in the middle of Big Bear Lake and takes advantage of the excellent climatic conditions to study the sun. Another big attraction is the Big Bear Valley Historical Museum. The museum has many exhibits that begin with the Indian period and include an 1875 log cabin, gold mining artifacts, cattle ranching and lumbering exhibits, and many other historical artifacts. Annual events such as the Spring Air Fair—which features games and live entertainment in an outdoor Beer Garden—and July 4th Fireworks and Old Miners' Days—which feature logging and horseshoe contests, cowboy poetry, and chili cook-off—make Big Bear an exceptional summer retreat. Other events include the Open Sky Music Festival, the Antique Car Show & Fun Run, Oktoberfest, and the International Film Festival.
