Summer Vacation Ideas

If you're looking to have a great time in the Phoenix area on your summer vacation, there's a huge variety of different things to do and the surrounding areas.

Piestewa Peak

The Dreamy Draw Recreation Area and the Phoenix Mountains Park and Recreation Area at the base of the impressive Piestewa Peak are great places for fun in the summertime. Piestewa Peak stands 2,608-feet high, and at its base is a great place for picnics and hikingo n trails up the slopes where you can enjoy relative peace and quiet. Or you could opt to head up the more-populated Piestewa Peak Summit Trail where you can look down on the Sonoran Desert and enjoy the views and the valleys.

Rawhide at Wild Horse Pass

This Old West town in nearby Chandler has been named the Best Western Experience in Arizona by the Arizona Republic. That makes it a spot not to miss for fun for the whole family. An old-time train ride, stage coaches, stunt shows, gunfights and even Old West things like learning how to pan for gold are just some of the fun activities for kids and adults alike at Rawhide.

Phoenix Zoo

The Phoenix Zoo is a must-see for animal lovers and families. The zoo is a full 125 acres of animals and habitats like an African savanna and a tropical rainforest habitat filled with that geographical region's wildlife. Don't miss the huge and old Galapagos tortoises. The Baboon Colony is another popular attraction at this nationally known zoo.

The Phoenix Art Museum

The Phoenix Art museum is a great place for families because of the wide variety of displays they have up at any one time. Not just for the elite art connoisseur, the Phoenix Art Museum has plenty for the casual art lover and children to enjoy, too.

Enchanted Island

For families with small children, Enchanted Island is a fun summer stop. With about a dozen rides all designed for kids under 10, this is a great way to keep the little ones occupied with some bright, loud and colorful fun when you're taking a break from hiking, camping and exploring the beautiful desert environs of Phoenix.

Camelback Mountain

If you're looking for something that's physically challenging and exhilarating, then hike to the summit of Camelback Mountain right in Phoenix. Unlike a casual hike, you'll need to use your hands at times to make up this hiking trail. This is a great place to really enjoy the mountains and the outdoors.
