Start Planning a Fall Vacation Getaway

Recently, we discussed reason why traveling in the fall saves you a lot of money for your mountain vacation experience. So now, let’s consider some incredible fall festivals you can plan your trip around.

Mountain lovers tend to love autumn. We are often quoted as loving winter activities like skiing and snowboarding, and that’s clear, but we also tend to blossom during the fall. Maybe it’s the cool air, the smell of fire pits burning at night, and let’s be honest, we love beer tasting all the new fall brews during Oktoberfest and at the Great American Beer Festival. The fall of 2013 is approaching fast and here are some awesome fall festivals we will be jealous of those attending.

The Telluride Blues Festival

Located at just under 9,000 feet, Telluride, Colorado is becoming just as well known for its Blues Festival as the skiing it offers—and that’s saying something considering Telluride was ranked fifth as Ski Magazine’s favorite ski destinations in the world. This year, on September 13th – 15th, you can see over 20 bands in three days while camping out in Western Colorado’s favorite mining town. While listening to such bands/singers as Booker T. Jones, The Black Crowes, Jim James from My Morning Jacket, Melissa Etherege, John Hiatt and the Combo, and Gary Clark Jr., you can taste 150 different beers from 56 participating breweries.

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

If New Mexico is not on your list of places to visit, look again. This fall, between October 5th – 13th, your family will love a stop at the 365-acre Balloon Fiesta Park for the world’s largest ballooning event. Kids and adults alike are taken back by sheer size of this event with 600 balloons attending from all over the world. The colors during the day and the lit-up balloons at night are enough to fill any kids’ imagination and inspire incredible dreams. Albuquerque has a lot of other fun attractions, so you’ll be sure to have plenty to do.

Snowbird’s Oktoberfest

Who says you can’t have a festival every weekend for a few months? Starting August 17th—and every weekend until October 13th—you can visit Snowbird, near Alta, Utah for a traditional German celebration of Oktoberfest. This fun festival has become Utah’s premier celebration of German food, music, dance, and family fun. Over the course of these weeks, this festival attracts nearly 60,000 visitors. Locals and tourists will get to taste food and beer of Bavaria while enjoying entertainment from local and national German bands and yodelers.
