In summer, mountain bikers ride the resort's trail network and the country roads and byways of the Allegheny Highlands. The steam-powered train brings passengers high into the mountains at 4,842 feet to be exact and provides for wonderful photo opportunities.

In Green Bank, the National Radio Astronomy Observatory with the largest fully steerable radio telescope in the world is open for free scheduled tours.

Civil War history buffs won't want to miss visiting the 285-acre Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park, where the largest battle in West Virginia took place on November 6, 1863. There's also the birthplace of Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winning author Pearl S.Buck. In addition, there are many state and national forests and parks to visit.
