Whistler - Blackcomb

These two resort towns, just outside of Garibaldi Provincial Park and just north east of Vancouver, are indeed a rare treat. Incomparable vistas and a wealth of unique eco-scapes make for a vacation destination that's second to none. Nowhere else on the planet can you go from the primordial Pacific Northwest coastline, on up alongside the waterways to Squamish, and through into such legendary mountains and rivers so quickly. Though you'll probably want to make a day of it for all the site-seeing opportunities along the way, the entire journey's distance can be covered in less than two hours.

Drive from Vancouver

Along the way you'll be awed by the rainforests, peaks, rivers and valleys, all that which makes the mountains such an incredible place to be. Whistler is well known for its summer relaxation vacation package specials, but equally distinguished from that it is a mountain activity adventure playground.

For those looking to swing the clubs, it has five championship golf courses, including one designed by Arnold Palmer himself. So make sure to play a round or two of golf and see how the high altitude can add 20 plus yards to club length distances and extra long drives. Whistler, at the foot of the Blackcomb Mountains, really is everything one could ever want in a summer mountain resort vacation. These towns sit at the foot of Whistler Mountain, part of the Fitzsimmons Range, situated on the edge of Garibaldi Provincial Park. Before your trip, getting a feel for the history of the area will help you plan.

Things to Do

Whitewater rafting, fishing, golfing, mountain biking, boating, canoeing, adventure parks, live music concerts, kayaking, hiking, camping, mountaineering, rock climbing—just a few adventure activities to mention. The mountain lakes are surreal in their beauty. Or enjoy an excursion in a Hummer, Jeep, or by ATV as you check out Cougar Mountain's backcountry. Are you an adrenalin junkie? One way to get your fix is to fly over the old growth canopy of the cedars on a Zip Line, floating over the trees as you slide down the mountainside safely suspended by a harness.

There are at least three impressive natural water features for you to see and enjoy within the Garibaldi Provincial Park and surrounding area. Take a guided tour or enjoy exploring on your own. Or how about a 4x4 excursion to Crystal Hut located at the top of the north ridge of Blackcomb Mountain? Soak in the large hot tub and look out across to the peaks that are permanently snowcapped from that 6,000-foot aerie.

Count on some great indoor or outdoor music concerts. For the legendary nightlife, check out the village and all the numerous bars and clubs. Dining options are limited only to your imagination from cheap fast food to wild game entrees at four-star resorts. More Whistler activities include windsurfing, bungee jumping, mountain biking, cycling—you can even enjoy summer glacier skiing or riding in June and July at Blackcomb—the only mountain in North America where that's possible.
